GHANAIAN SOLDIER WHO REJECTED GALAMSEY BRIBE GETS PROMOTION AND UN POSTING. (PHOTO).

Ghanaian soldier who rejected galamsey bribe gets promotion and UN posting

It was during a routine guard duty at the Bibiani Gold Mines late last year that 30-year-old soldier Solomon Asare Teye-Tsu made a decision that would change his life.

Offered a large bribe by illegal miners seeking access to restricted pits, he chose integrity over personal gain — and swiftly handed the offenders over to authorities.

His courageous action earned him national recognition, and now, a well-deserved promotion.

At a durbar held at Burma Hall, Burma Camp, on Friday, July 11, 2025, the Ghana Armed Forces promoted him from Private to Lance Corporal. The promotion was announced by the Chief of the Defence Staff.

Currently stationed at the Department of Public Relations, L/Cpl Teye-Tsu was also presented with another citation and nominated for deployment with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon as part of his reward.

Previously honoured by a private security firm for the same act, Teye-Tsu’s steadfast resistance to corruption has become a shining example of patriotism in Ghana’s military ranks — and a timely reminder of the need for integrity in the fight against illegal mining.
