Lagos police launch investigation as jeweller  accuses its officers of harassment The Lagos State Police Command said it has commenced an investigation into a viral video of a jeweller accusing some policemen in the Festac area of the state of harassing him.  The command disclosed this in an X post on Saturday. The video, which circulated on X on Saturday morning, shows the businessman engaged in a struggle with some policemen. Later in the video, the businessman could be seen with a bloody face after allegedly sustaining a cut beside his right eye during the struggle with the police officers,  The jeweller later explained that the policemen from the Festac Division had stopped him for a routine search. ‎IGP HOLDS STRATEGIC CONFERENCE WITH SENIOR OFFICERS, COMMENDS OFFICERS FOR PROACTIVENESS 

‎

‎Rolls Out 2-Month Scorecard, Reaffirms Commitment to Improved Welfare for both Serving and Retired Officers

‎

‎The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM., today July 29 2025, convened a strategic conference with senior police officers from the ranks of Commissioner of Police and above at the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Peacekeeping Building, Force Headquarters, Abuja. The conference focused on addressing changes in security landscape, threats complexity, and reinforcing the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all citizens.

‎During the conference, the IGP commended senior officers on their dedication and operational efficiency to duty, sacrifices made for public safety, which had led to significant achievements for the Nigeria Police Force in the last 2 months.  From June to July 2025, the Nigeria Police Force recorded the arrest of 5,488 criminal suspects for various offences including kidnapping, armed robbery, cultism, homicide and murder; the recovery of 316 assorted firearms and 2,884 rounds of ammunition; the recovery of 216 stolen/unregistered vehicles, and the rescue of 170 kidnapped victims, some from extremely difficult terrains.

‎The IGP charged the senior officers to renew their commitment to crime fighting, as leadership roles are not ceremonial but earned by lifesaving decisions which keep our country safe. He further emphasized the need for Commands and Formations to showcase operational results of the Police at their various levels, so as to intimate Nigerians of the Police unrelentness in the mandate to ensure public safety. Also, he urged officers to be proactive in responding to potential threats, stressing the need for the Force to be abreast of changes in the dynamics of crime by implementing intelligence-led strategies and leveraging technology to enhance crime-fighting capabilities.

‎The IGP again reaffirmed the commitment of the leadership to the Force to improved welfare packages for both serving and retired Police officers, which remains a forefront of his administration’s institutional reform agenda.

‎

‎The conference ended with a renewed vigor  from all senior officers to implement the Policies of the IGP towards crime prevention,  while reassuring Nigerians of continual engagement at grass root level to ensure a safe and secured Nigeria.
