 ANAMBRA POLICE ACTION ON THE CULT CLASH THAT RESULTED IN THE FATAL INJURY OF FOUR PERSONS AT AFOR NAWFIA MARKET The Anambra State Police Command wishes to provide a comprehensive update on the cult-related attack that occurred on the evening of 7th December 2025 at Afor Nawfia Market, along the Onitsha–Awka Old Road. It will be recalled that operatives of the Command attached to the Special Anti-Cult Squad, Enugwu-Ukwu, had, four days earlier, acting on credible intelligence about a planned rival cult confrontation, arrested two dangerous suspects and recovered a firearm from them. The arrested suspects have been assisting the Police with valuable information aimed at preventing further cult-related violence within Awka and its environs.  Nigeria's President Tinubu sends Foreign Minister to Ghana to investigate remarks and operations of Igbo King living in Ghana


Nigeria's President Bola Tinubu has sent Nigeria’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, to Ghana on a special mission following the controversial remarks by the self-styled Igbo king, Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu.


According to Ghana’s Foreign Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the visit was to gather firsthand information and hold political consultations to help ease tensions between the two countries.


Ablakwa described the discussions as constructive and said it was reassuring to hear that the Nigerian government does not support the statements made by the said community leader.


He also revealed that Minister Bianca thanked President Mahama and Ghanaians for their tolerance and assured that Tinubu’s government will continue to protect Ghanaians in Nigeria.

MINISTER FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS MEETS WITH MINISTER OF STATE FOR FOREIGN AFFAIRS OF NIGERIA


On Wednesday, 30th July, 2025 the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP) held a meeting with the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Okujwu to discuss issues of mutual concern between the two countries.

During a press briefing after the meeting, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa (MP) recalled the historical ties between Ghana and Nigeria.  He further recalled an unpleasant incident which occurred between the two countries in the past and emphasised the need for African countries to be united to ensure the prosperity of the continent. He added that the establishment of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) should enable Africans to work together, create more employment, and transform the continent. He stated that, the Government of Ghana will continue to ensure that the country is peaceful and further urged all nationals and non-nationals to be law abiding.

In her remarks, the Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Nigeria, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Okujwu, commended Ghana for the role it continues to play in the sub-region and on the continent and further acknowledged the vital role Ghana and Nigeria continue to play in the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).  

Commenting on the viral video that caused tensions, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Okujwu condemned the incendiary comments and urged nationals of her country to avoid comments that have the potential of causing tension. She commended the President of Ghana and the traditional authorities for their commitment to peace, continued coexistence between Nigerians and Ghanaians and the strengthening of relations between the two countries. She also recalled the historical ties between the two countries and called for the reactivation of the Permanent Joint Commission for Cooperation (PJCC) to further deepen the relations between the two countries.
