 PDP Condemns ADC’s ‘Unprovoked Attack,’ Vows to Defeat Tinubu in 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Tuesday issued a sharp rebuke to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for what it termed an “unprovoked attack” on its leadership and structure. The PDP asserted its position as the only political party capable of defeating President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.

In a statement released by the PDP’s National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the party criticized recent remarks attributed to ADC chieftains, particularly comments targeting the PDP’s internal processes and its readiness for the upcoming polls. The PDP described the ADC’s statements as baseless and a distraction from its own internal challenges.

“The ADC’s attempt to undermine the PDP is a futile exercise borne out of desperation,” Ologunagba said. “The PDP remains the largest and most organized opposition party in Nigeria, with a proven track record of mobilizing Nigerians. We are fully prepared to defeat President Tinubu and the APC in 2027, and no amount of provocation from smaller parties will derail our focus.”

The PDP’s response comes amid heightened political tensions as parties position themselves for the 2027 elections. The ADC, recently restructured under the leadership of former Senate President David Mark, has been vocal about its ambition to challenge the dominance of the PDP and APC. However, the PDP dismissed the ADC’s criticisms as an attempt to gain relevance at the expense of established parties.

Ologunagba further called on Nigerians to ignore what he described as “political noise” from the ADC and focus on the PDP’s efforts to address pressing national issues, including economic hardship and insecurity. The party vowed to strengthen its grassroots mobilization and present a united front in the lead-up to the elections.

Political observers note that the exchange reflects growing rivalries among opposition parties as they vie for influence ahead of 2027. The PDP has been working to resolve its own internal disputes, including leadership tussles in some state chapters, to consolidate its position as the primary opposition force.

The ADC has yet to respond to the PDP’s statement, but analysts expect further verbal sparring as both parties intensify their campaigns. With the 2027 elections still two years away, the political landscape in Nigeria remains dynamic, with opposition parties jostling to challenge the APC’s hold on power.
