 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. THIS IS AN ATTACK ON IGBOS, EDO STATE GOVERNOR WOULDN’T TRY THIS WITH A LEADER FROM HAUSA LAND OR A LEADER FROM YORUBA LAND AND I MEAN IT- KENNETH OKONKWO TACKLES GOV OKPEBHOLO OVER HIS WARNING TO PETER OBI. (PHOTO).


 This is an attack on Igbos, Edo state Governor wouldn’t try this with a leader from Hausa land or a leader from Yoruba land and I mean it- Kenneth Okonkwo tackles Gov Okpebholo over his warning to Peter Obi


Speaking in an interview with ARISE TV this morning, Kenneth Okonkwo was asked to react to the recent comments by Edo state governor, Monday Okpebholo on the person of Peter Obi. 


Recall that the governor had said that Obi should never come to the state without getting security clerance from him. According to him, the last time Obi was in the state three persons d!ed. 


Responding to the warning given to Obi by the Edo state governor , Kenneth Okonkwo stated that l he sees the governor’s comment as an attack on Igbos. According to him, the governor would not make such a remark to any leader from Hausa or Yoruba ethnic divide.


He also stated that he will not respond to the comments of the APC chairman in Edo state in which the chairman claimed that the governor was right in asking Obi not to visit the state without his permission. According to the Edo state APC chairman, the people of Edo state hate Obi and so he should not come to their state.


When asked to react to this comment by the Edo APC chairman, Okonkwo said;


‘’Sorry I don’t give credence to people like that because they are just seeking relevance. He is as inconsequential as his face looks’’
