 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  Use the Pedestrian Bridge or Face Arrest : FRSC Warns Road Users in Anambra.


The Anambra State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has launched a sensitization campaign at the popular Unizik Junction, Awka, to educate road users on the importance of using the pedestrian bridge rather than risking their lives by crossing the busy highway.


During the exercise, FRSC officers distributed flyers and sensitized commuters on the dangers of crossing the expressway without using the bridge, even as individuals caught crossing the road illegally were cautioned and advised to prioritize their safety.


The Anambra state commander of FRSC Mrs. Joyce Alexander ably represented by her Deputy Christi Okonkwo disclosed plans to collaborate with sister agencies to enforce compliance, and warned that following the awareness campaign, anyone found crossing the highway without using the bridge would be arrested and prosecuted.


In addition, she assured that the command will work with Operation Clean and Healthy  Anambra (OCHA Brigade) and the Police to clear traders who have turned the bridge into a makeshift market, making pedestrian movement difficult
