Woman escapes lynching after drunk accused her of stealing’ his manhood in Jos

A woman with known mental health challenges narrowly escaped death on Monday in Jos, Plateau State, after a mob attacked her following a false accusation by an intoxicated man who claimed she stole his manhood.

According to an eyewitness who spoke to newsmen, the incident began when the heavily drunk man raised an alarm, alleging that the woman touched him, causing his manhood to disappear. Without verifying the claim, an angry mob quickly gathered and began beating and humiliating the woman with sticks, wood, and other objects. The situation escalated as some in the crowd sought tyres to set her ablaze.

The eyewitness recounted that the woman was denied any chance to defend herself until individuals who recognized her intervened. They identified her as a petty trader from another part of Jos with mental health challenges. These interveners insisted on checking the accuser’s claims, and upon examination, confirmed that his manhood was intact.

The family of the accuser issued a quiet apology to the woman and offered to cover her medical treatment. “Imagine if this poor woman had been killed over a false accusation from a known drunk?” the eyewitness lamented, highlighting the dangers of mob justice.
