 NDLEA dismantles Abuja drug bunks, arrests 132, recovers 220kg illicit substances  -Marwa hails operation, vows to sustain crackdown in FCT, other states  In a non-stop two-week offensive action against traffickers and dealers, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully dismantled several drug joints and bunks within and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja where a total of 132 suspects were arrested and 220 kilograms of assorted illicit substances recovered. The wel-coordinated raids jointly conducted by the Agency's Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command from llth to 25th April 2026 were launched to dismantle illicit drug hubs contributing to substance abuse, trafficking, and associated criminal activities in the capital city after weeks of intelligence and surveillance across all identified hotspots. A 9-YEAR-OLD ILLINOIS GIRL LOST HER LIFE AFTER BEING SWEPT UNDER A LOG JAM IN THE KASKASKIA RIVER.(PHOTO).

 A 9-year-old Illinois girl lost her life after being swept under a log jam in the Kaskaskia River.


This tragic incident unfolded at 2:30 p.m. on August 2nd when authorities in Fayette County received a call regarding a 9-year-old girl drowning in the Kaskaskia River near Wren Bridge. 


As first responders arrived on scene they were informed that the young girl had been swept under a large log jam in the river. 


Multiple agencies were dispatched to assist with the rescue and later recovery of the young girl but sadly by 3 a.m. Sunday morning, recovery efforts were called off. 


The search resumed the next morning at 8 a.m. and approximately 3 hours into their mission, recovery crews were able to locate and extricate the young girl from beneath the log jam. 


This is a truly heartbreaking outcome. Our thoughts are with the family of this young girl and also with the crews who tirelessly searched to bring a conclusion to this tragic situation.
