ARMED HERDSMEN KILL WOMAN ON THE FARM IN BENUE

8th August, 2025     |      5:00 PM

A woman identified as Nguevese Abite was brutally murdered on Wednesday by suspected armed Fulani herdsmen in Adeor, a community in Isherev, Ndzorov Council Ward, Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

According to a local source, Anshu Timothy, Nguevese was working on the farm alongside others when the attackers arrived and interrogated them about their identities. The herdsmen reportedly left without harming the group, but as the farmers headed home, Nguevese lagged behind.

Her absence raised concerns, prompting her family to return to the farm in search of her. Despite their efforts, she could not be found. The search continued the following day, when her body was discovered in a secluded part of the farmland.

Police at the Gbajimba Division took custody of the remains before handing them over to her family for burial in Logo Local Government Area.

Community sources allege that the area has been under sustained attacks from armed herdsmen, with repeated incidents of rape and other violent crimes. It is suspected that Nguevese may have resisted a sexual assault attempt, leading to her death.

Adeor has been a target of herdsmen violence in the past. In June, two farmers Kator Gbangir and Adeor sustained injuries after trying to drive away cattle that were destroying their crops.

The killing has once again heightened fears in Guma, one of the worst-hit areas in Benue’s long-running farmer-herder conflict.
