Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has warned residents against recruiting criminals from outside the state to carry out kidnappings and other violent crimes, describing the trend as a major setback to ongoing efforts to improve security. The governor issued the warning on Wednesday while speaking at the 2026 Ministers’ Conference organised by the Edo State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Benin City. Okpebholo expressed concern over the security situation in the state, alleging that some individuals were deliberately exaggerating incidents of crime and spreading false information on social media to discredit his administration. According to him, investigations by security agencies have uncovered the involvement of local collaborators who allegedly recruit armed gangs from outside Edo State to perpetrate kidnappings and other criminal activities. “Do you know one painful thing?  BENUE: GUNMEN ABDUCT NYSC MEMBER ON KATSINA-ALA, TAKUM HIGHWAY

Gunmen have reportedly kidnapped a member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) from a commercial vehicle travelling along the Katsina-Ala–Takum highway in Benue State.


The incident occurred over the weekend when a Toyota Carina II, with registration number KLD 108 AA, was en route from Takum, Taraba State, to Katsina-Ala, Benue State. The vehicle was said to be carrying seven passengers at the time of the attack.


Witnesses said the assailants ambushed the vehicle, forcing it to a halt before whisking away the corps member to an unknown location. The identities of the victim and other passengers have not yet been disclosed.


Authorities in the area are yet to issue an official statement, but security operatives have reported launched a search operation to rescue the abducted corps member and apprehend the perpetrators.
