Corpse of missing Nigerian woman found in US

Authorities in Illinois have discovered the body of a missing Nigerian woman, Olasinmibo Abosede, popularly known as Sinmi.

The remains were found on Thursday at about 1:55 p.m. in the Springbrook Prairie Forest Preserve near the intersection of 83rd Street and Chandelle Drive, according to the Forest Preserve District of DuPage County and the Naperville Police Department.

Police said the deceased’s clothing matched what the 42-year-old was last seen wearing when she disappeared on July 30.

She had left her home near Springbrook Golf Course for a walk and was last captured on surveillance footage at 9:20 a.m. in the 2100 block of Sudbury Street, dressed in a black Adidas jacket, grey sweatpants, a black headscarf, and black Crocs.

“While we believe the individual to be Sinmi, the final confirmation will be made by the DuPage County Coroner’s Office,” Naperville Police Chief Jason Arres said in a statement.

Authorities said they do not suspect foul play but confirmed that an autopsy will be conducted by the coroner’s office. A joint probe into her death is being handled by the forest preserve police and Naperville police.

Abosede’s disappearance had prompted a large search effort, with police, volunteers, and canine units combing the forest preserve.

Forest Preserve District Police Chief David Pederson said: “Our hearts go out to Sinmi’s family, friends, and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.”
