Former Lawmaker Slams FG for Naming Fuji Star Kwam 1, Ibom Air Passenger as Airport Security Ambassadors

Former House of Representatives member Dachung Bagos has strongly criticized the Federal Government’s decision to appoint Fuji musician Wasiu Marshal, popularly known as Kwam 1, as an ambassador for airport security protocols, warning that it sets a dangerous precedent. Bagos also condemned reports that Comfort Emmanson, an Ibom Air passenger involved in a disruptive incident at a Lagos airport, is being considered for a similar role.

Speaking as a guest on a television program on Thursday, Bagos expressed concern that appointing individuals linked to controversial behavior could encourage others to act recklessly to gain recognition. “With all the drama, now [Kwam 1] is an ambassador, meaning everybody will start moving with the flask, do drama to become an ambassador,” Bagos said, referring to a recent incident involving the musician. “No matter the explanation, the perception of Nigerians is that it is entirely wrong.”

Bagos further criticized the consideration of Emmanson as an ambassador, citing eyewitness accounts of her aggressive behavior at the airport. “If at the end of the day, she is an ambassador, the negative perception is clear,” he warned. “This means everybody will start misbehaving on aircraft so that you will be an ambassador at the end of the day.”

The former lawmaker urged the Federal Government to reconsider its approach, arguing that such appointments undermine public confidence in airport security protocols and could incentivize unruly conduct. The decision has sparked debate, with critics questioning the criteria for selecting ambassadors and the message it sends to the public about accountability and responsible behavior in aviation settings.

The Federal Government has yet to respond officially to the criticisms, and no further details have been provided on the roles Kwam 1 and Emmanson are expected to play as ambassadors. The controversy highlights ongoing concerns about maintaining order and professionalism in Nigeria’s aviation sector.
