CJN Bans Lawyers, Court Officials to Stop Using ‘Barrister’ as Official Title The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, has directed lawyers, court officials and other legal personnel to discontinue the use of “Barrister” as a prefix to their names in all official engagements at the Supreme Court. The directive was contained in a memorandum dated July 13, 2026, and signed by the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court, Kabir Akanbi. The circular, which was addressed to litigation staff, legal practitioners, court registrars and lawyers, stated that the directive took immediate effect and was aimed at upholding professional standards within the apex court.  Court remands Wontumi presenter who said President Mahama knows something about the helicopter crash 


Wontumi TV presenter Akyenkwaa Nana Kofi Asare has been remanded by the Accra Circuit Court after being accused of making false on-air claims linking President John Mahama to the August 6 military helicopter c,rash in Adansi Akrofoum, which killed eight people.


Arrested on August 12, Asare was denied bail on Thursday, with the court ordering he remain in police custody as investigations continue. 


His lawyer, Enoch Anhwere Afoakwah, called the decision a miscarriage of justice and says they will appeal.


The state funeral for the c,rash victims will be held on Friday, August 15.
