Senate President Godswill Akpabio has appealed to the people of the South East to sustain peace and prevent their youth from engaging in armed struggle against the Federal Government.  INEC declares Ikpea, Igbinedion winners of Edo by-elections

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) winners of Saturday’s by-elections in Edo State.

Dr. Joseph Ikpea was declared winner of Edo Central Senatorial District and Barr. Omosede Igbinedion as winner of the Ovia Federal Constituency.

According to the Returning Officer for the Senatorial by-election, Prof. Kingsley Ubaorji, Ikpea of the APC polled 105,129 votes to defeat Joe Okojie of the PDP who polled 15,146 votes.

Similarly, the Returning Officer for Ovia Federal Constituency by-election, Prof. Clement Ighodalo, announced that the APC candidate, Omosede Igbinedion, pulled 77,053 votes to defeat Johnny Aikpitanyi of the PDP who scored 3,838 votes and Dr. Sandra Asemota of the ADC who polled 925 votes to come third.

The two seats became vacant in September 2024, following the election of Senator Monday Okpebholo and Rep member, Dennis Idahosa, as Governor and Deputy Governor respectively.

The Rep member-elect, Igbinedion, was first elected to the Green Chamber in 2011, but lost her bid to return to the incumbent Deputy Governor, Idahosa.

She also lost another attempt to Idahosa in 2023 on the platform of the PDP but had to defect to the APC following Idahosa’s election as Deputy Governor.
