North West Police have arrested a 26-year-old man suspected of murdering his ex-girlfriend, Kgaugelo Marota (20), and attempting to kill his current girlfriend in Maubane village.
According to Acting Provincial Commissioner Major General Patrick Asaneng, Makapanstad Police acted swiftly, arresting the suspect in Carousel View near Maubane in the early hours of Friday morning.
Marota was found dead at a local tavern on Thursday, 21 August, with multiple stab wounds. Emergency and Medical Rescue Services confirmed her death at the scene.
Investigations revealed that the suspect then attacked his current girlfriend at home. She was rushed to the hospital and is receiving treatment. Disturbingly, the man reportedly posted on social media explaining his actions.
The suspect is expected to appear in Temba Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 25 August, facing charges of murder and attempted murder.
