A 31-year-old South African man and a 28-year-old Zimbabwean national, who is in the country illegally, are set to appear before the Polokwane Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 27 August 2025. The pair were arrested for dealing in illicit cigarettes and contravening the Immigration Act 13 of 2002.

Their arrest followed a successful Anti-Smuggling Operation on Tuesday, 26 August 2025. Members of the Limpopo Tracking Team, Provincial Intervention Unit (PIU), and Tshimollo Security and Investigation acted on intelligence about a vehicle transporting illicit goods from Beitbridge to Polokwane.

A silver Toyota Corolla matching the description was spotted on the N1 North. After a high-speed chase, the car was intercepted near Mall of the North. Police searched the vehicle and discovered 19 master cases and 47 cartons of Remington Gold cigarettes, estimated to be worth R120 000.

The vehicle was seized and will be forfeited to the State under the Prevention of Organised Crime Act 29 of 2004.
