 IGP DISU PAYS OPERATIONAL VISIT TO  AKWA IBOM, PRESIDES OVER PASSING-OUT CEREMONY OF 1,068 RETRAINED CONSTABLES The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, today, 30th April 2026, undertook an official visit to Akwa Ibom State, where he paid a courtesy call on the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, ahead of the passing-out ceremony of retrained Police Constables in Uyo.  Massive Manhunt Launched After Prisoner Escapes Custody in Thohoyandou


The Police in Thohoyandou, under the Vhembe District, have launched a massive manhunt for an awaiting-trial prisoner, Muluvhu Gumani (34), who allegedly escaped from lawful custody on Monday, 25 August 2025, at around 08:50.


Gumani was initially arrested for robbery with a weapon other than a firearm. Preliminary reports indicate that police were transporting thirteen awaiting-trial prisoners to the Thohoyandou Magistrate’s Court when the incident occurred. At a traffic light intersection, one of the suspects allegedly forced open the police vehicle door and fled on foot.


Police have appealed to members of the community not to attempt to apprehend the suspect themselves for safety reasons.


Anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the escapee is urged to contact Detective Captain Sydney Dama on 082 469 1035.
