Ex-Governor El-Rufai Petitions Police Service Commission, Seeks Probe Into Kaduna Police Over Invitation

Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has formally petitioned the Police Service Commission (PSC), accusing the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police and several officers of “abuse of office, unprofessional conduct, and repeated violations” of the Police Act 2020.

In the petition, dated September 8 and addressed to the PSC Chairman, El-Rufai urged the Commission to carry out an impartial investigation into what he described as unlawful actions.

“As a citizen of Nigeria and a former governor of Kaduna State, I wish to lodge this complaint and request a thorough and independent probe into the unconstitutional conduct of the Commissioner and officers of the Kaduna Police Command,” El-Rufai stated.

He emphasized that his petition was motivated by a sense of duty, noting:

“I submit this with a deep sense of responsibility, having served both at the national and state levels, including eight years as governor of Kaduna. This is not just a personal matter but one tied to the future of policing in Nigeria.”

The former governor stressed the importance of accountability in rebuilding public trust, urging the PSC to exercise its powers to enforce discipline and ethical standards within the Force.

The petition follows a recent police invitation addressed to El-Rufai and six other members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC). The group was summoned to appear before the State Criminal Investigation Department on September 8, 2025, over allegations of criminal conspiracy, incitement, mischief, and causing grievous harm.

Those listed in the police letter include Bashir Sa’idu, Jafaru Sani, Ubaidullah Mohammed (“30”), Nasiru Maikano, Aminu Abita, and Ahmed Rufa’i Hussaini (“Mikiya”).
