 Catholic priest reportedly klled in Kogi  A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Samuel Opeyemi Oyetoro, has been reportedly killed by unknown assailants in Ajaokuta, Kogi State. According to reports, the priest was stabbed multiple times along Ajaokuta road on Wednesday, 29th July 2026. His body was found dumped at the roadside.  Rev. Fr. Oyetoro was born in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State and a native of Ayetoro in Ijumu Local Government Area.  Until his death, he served as a priest at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Egbe.  JOSTUM Vows Strict Penalties for Students Engaging in Banned Signing-Out Activities


The management of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi (JOSTUM) has announced severe disciplinary measures for students participating in signing-out activities, in line with a Federal Government ban on such practices in tertiary institutions. The university’s Registrar and Secretary to the Senate, Dr. John David, disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday in Makurdi.


Dr. David emphasized that signing-out activities, which involve students scribbling on clothes and engaging in disorderly conduct, contradict JOSTUM’s culture and values. He noted that these practices often lead to excessive noise, partying, and unsafe behavior, tarnishing the dignity of graduates and the institution’s reputation. The university had already prohibited such activities on February 15, 2025, prior to the federal directive.


“The primary concern of the university administration is to ensure that students graduate with dignity and decorum,” Dr. David stated. “Unfortunately, signing-out practices undermine this with messy and unsafe behavior by final-year students.”


The registrar warned that all signing-out activities are now banned on campus, and violators risk severe penalties, including suspension, rustication, or withholding of results and certificates. Staff and security personnel have been directed to enforce strict compliance with the ban.


JOSTUM’s management urged students to adhere to the directive to avoid facing disciplinary action, reinforcing the institution’s commitment to maintaining a dignified academic environment.
