 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8. PRESIDENT TINUBU MOURNS MRS. LEILA FOWLER, ICON OF EDUCATION AND SERVICE

 

President Bola Tinubu expresses sadness over the passing of Chief (Mrs.) Leila Euphemia Apinke Fowler, a lawyer, renowned educationist and founder of the Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls in Lagos.

 

Fowler, the Yeye Mofin of Lagos and mother of Babatunde Fowler, former Chairman of the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), died at 92.

 

President Tinubu describes her death as a massive loss to her family, loved ones, and the entire nation, particularly the education sector, where she distinguished herself as a visionary and trailblazer.

 

The President remarks: "Through establishing the Vivian Fowler Memorial College for Girls, the late Mrs. Fowler laid the foundation for academic excellence, nurturing generations of young women and empowering them to reach their fullest potential.

 

"Her legacy lives on in the thousands of lives she transformed. The nation is grateful for her remarkable impact. She will be fondly engraved in our minds."

 

President Tinubu extends his heartfelt condolences to the Fowler family, friends, associates, the management and students of Vivian Fowler Memorial College, and the people of Lagos State.

 

The President prays that Almighty God will grant her soul eternal repose and comfort all who mourn her passing.
