 43 children among 79 civilians killed in paramilitary RSF drone attack in Sudan's South Kordofan At least 79 civilians, including 43 children, were killed and 38 others injured in a drone strike carried out by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in South Kordofan, Sudanese authorities said, TRT Afrika reported. In a statement, the South Kordofan state government said four women were among the victims in Thursday’s attack on the city of Kalogi in western Sudan. It said the drone fired four missiles into a kindergarten, a hospital and densely populated residential areas, describing the incident as a "heinous crime" committed by the RSF-allied Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N). Authorities had initially reported eight fatalities, including six children and a teacher, before the death toll climbed to 79.  Pretoria man gets life for killing couples in a brutal home attack


A 37-year-old Pretoria man has been sentenced to two life terms after he murdered a couple during a violent home invasion in January.


The Pretoria High Court found Raymond Steven Jan-Erick Smith guilty of killing Grant Cantello and his wife Heidi at their family home in Proclamation Hill.


Smith posed as a potential buyer after seeing the property listed online and visited the house three times before attacking on January 27. He tied up the elderly homeowners Gerald Cantello, 74, and Lilian Janson, 71, before fatally stabbing their son and daughter-in-law. A 16-year-old boy was also stabbed but managed to escape and call for help.


Smith was arrested the next day while washing bloodstained clothes at his home. In court, he pleaded guilty and asked for a lighter sentence, but Judge ruled the murders were premeditated and offered no grounds for leniency.


Apart from the two life sentences, Smith received three years for attempted murder and eight years for attempted robbery to run concurrently. He was also declared unfit to own a firearm.
