 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  GOVERNOR SOLUDO CELEBRATES ARCHBISHOP VALERIAN MADUKA OKEKE ON HIS BIRTHDAY


The Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo, CFR, has conveyed his earnest felicitations to His Grace, the Most Rev. Dr. Valerian Maduka Okeke, the Archbishop of the Metropolitan See of Onitsha, on the occasion of his birthday today, October 20th.


Governor Soludo, in his goodwill message, described Archbishop Okeke as a towering pillar of faith, a bastion of hope, and a quintessential embodiment of the spirit of excellence, integrity, and service to God and mankind.


The Governor eulogised the Archbishop for his over two decades of dynamic leadership at the helm of the Onitsha Archdiocese. He noted that under Archbishop Okeke’s spiritual guidance, the Church has witnessed remarkable growth, not only in faith but also in its commitment to education, healthcare, and humanitarian services, which have profoundly impacted the lives of countless citizens.


Governor Soludo further highlighted the Archbishop’s steadfast partnership and support for the State Government’s initiatives, particularly in fostering unity, moral rejuvenation, and  development agenda for a liveable and prosperous homeland.


Therefore, Governor Soludo celebrates Archbishop Valerian Maduka Okeke on his 72nd birthday, wishing him longer life, abundant health, and continued divine wisdom and strength to continue his sacred ministry.
