AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk.  I will end Insecurity in Anambra Within Two Months of Assumption of Office- Jude Ezenwafor

The governorship candidate of the People's Democratic party, Jude Ezenwafor, has assured Anambra residents that insecurity in the state will be eliminated within the first two months of his administration if elected.

He made this known during his interview with BBC News Igbo when asked what he will do for Anambra people.

Speaking on his experience in security management, Ezenwafor recalled his tenure as Senior Special Assistant on Security Matters, during which he said the state recorded significant security improvements.

According to him, Anambra became one of the safest states in the country under his watch, attracting attention from national security agencies. “During my time as SSA on Security, the Army and Police came to Anambra to study the template we were using,” he stated.

He emphasized that security is achieved through practical action rather than rhetoric. “Security of a state is not done on paper or by talking. It is through action. I and my team have already mapped out the necessary strategies to tighten security in Anambra,” Ezenwafor said.

He concluded by pledging that insecurity will soon become a thing of the past if his plans are implemented. “Within two months in office, insecurity will be a told story in Anambra State,” he assured.
