 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  One Killed, Another Injured in Senwabarwana Shooting, Police Launch Manhunt


The Police in Senwabarwana, under the Capricorn District, have launched a manhunt for suspects following a shooting incident that resulted in the death of one man and the injury of another at Senwabarwana Park on Thursday, 02 October 2025, at around 21:15.


According to a police report, officers responded to a complaint of murder at the park and, upon arrival, discovered the body of a 24-year-old man lying in a supine position with a gunshot wound to the upper body.


A second victim, aged 22, was later found at a local hospital with gunshot wounds to both the upper and lower body.


The motive for the shooting remains unknown, and the suspects are still at large. Police have urged anyone with information that could assist in the investigation to contact Sergeant Phineas Magwele on 076 236 4689.
