AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm.  92-Year-Old Paul Biya Declared Winner Of Cameroon Presidential Election

Cameroon’s 92-year-old President, Paul Biya, has been re-elected.

This comes after the country's electoral body officially declared him the winner of the country’s 2025 Presidential Election.

The Constitutional Council on Monday announced that Biya secured 53.66 per cent of the votes, defeating opposition candidate Issa Tchiroma, who polled 35.19 per cent.

Tchiroma, who has consistently challenged Biya’s 43-year grip on power, rejected the outcome, insisting he actually won the ballot with 54.8 per cent of the votes.

Ahead of the declaration, the opposition leader had urged his supporters to embark on peaceful marches despite a government ban on public gatherings.
