 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Umahi’s younger Brother Marries Governor Nwifuru’s Younger Sister in Ebonyi State yesterday 


It was a heartwarming celebration that brought joy and unity to Agbaja community of Izzi Local Government Area of Ebonyi State as Miss Rebecca Nwifuru, a younger sister to Governor Francis Nwifuru, took a bold step into a traditional bond with her beloved, Mr. Silas Umahi, a younger brother to Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi.


The traditional marriage ceremony which was held at the palace of Ezekiel Nwankpu in Oferekpe Agbaja, in Izzi Local Government Area drew thousands of dignitaries and well-wishers among which were notable figures from various sectors, including political leaders, traditional rulers, and important community stakeholders, all coming together to bless the couple and wish them a prosperous life ahead


Speaking at the ceremony, Governor! Nwifuru described the union of former Miss Rebecca Nwifuru and Mr. Silas Umahi as a divine arrangement, devoid of any external influences and encouraged the couple to shun divisive tendencies, safeguard their home from third-party interference, and for Rebecca to always submit to her husband.


Governor Nwifuru also expressed his commitment to support the couple, assured them that he would always be there to provide assistance.


The immediate past Governor of the State and Minister of Works, Senator Umahi, who acknowledged the significance of the union in strengthening the bond between their two families, emphasised that the marriage is a testament to their longstanding relationship and assured the young couple of his unwavering support for their journey ahead.
