Zoo works to rescue Florida crocodile injured by spear and bullet in head
An 8-foot American crocodile is recovering at Zoo Miami after surviving a severe attack.
Officials reported that the crocodile was found on Tuesday in the Florida Keys with a spear embedded in its skull. During further examination, the Zoo Miami team discovered a bullet lodged between her eyes. Despite the injuries, neither appeared to be life-threatening.
Led by Dr. Gwen Myers, the veterinary team carefully removed the spear, and by Wednesday, the crocodile was resting and showing signs of recovery. Zoo Miami officials said their goal is to release her back into the wild once she has fully healed.
The zoo is working alongside the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, which has launched a criminal investigation into the incident. No additional details about the investigation have been released.
