Yemen fighting pushes nearly 3,000 to Djibouti in less than a week: UN    Nearly 3,000 people have fled Yemen for Djibouti in less than a week as escalating violence drives growing displacement within the country and across its borders, the UN refugee agency said Friday. “Refugees continue to arrive by boat through Obock, Khor Angar, Moulhoule and Godoria after difficult journeys in small vessels,” UNHCR representative in Djibouti Sandrine Desamours told reporters in Geneva, Anadolu Agency reported. More than half of those crossing the Bab el-Mandeb Strait are women and children, while some families have been displaced for a second time after previously fleeing Yemen during the 2015 crisis and later returning. UNHCR is preparing for at least 10,000 new arrivals but warned that capacity is rapidly diminishing. A 5-YEAR-OLD BOY WHO WAS STAYING WITH FAMILY IN INDIANAPOLIS HAS DIED FROM A SELF-INFLICTED GUNSHOT WOUND.(PHOTO)

 A 5-year-old boy who was staying with family in Indianapolis has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.


Indianapolis Metro Police were called to a home on the Stone Ridge Apartments at approximately 4:10 p.m. on Thanksgiving day. 


Officers were responding to the report of a person shot. However, responding officers would be shocked and heartbroken when they discovered the victim. 


Officers discovered 5-year-old Andreas Woodland suffering from what appeared to be an accidental self-inflicted gunshot. 


The child's devastated family stood by as the child was rushed to a nearby hospital.  Sadly, Andreas was pronounced deceased at the hospital. 


Andreas's parents were not present at the time of the accident. Andreas was under the care of a relative. However, the exact relationship is not clear. 


Police conducted interviews with several adults present at the time of the shooting. Police say the family has fully cooperated with the investigation. 


Indianapolis PD officer, Tommy Thompson, hopes that this tragedy serves as a reminder for gun owners to store them safely out of the reach of children.  He is quoted saying, "You can't take a bullet back once it's left the gun and, in this instance, a child got a hold of a firearm. We got to do better as adults."


He reminds residents of Marion County, Indiana, that free gun locks are available at the Marion County Library. Please go get your free lock today.
