Anambra poll: IPAC urges voters to reject vote buying and intimidation
Ahead of the forthcoming Anambra State governorship election scheduled for Saturday, November 8, 2025, the umbrella body of all registered political parties in Nigeria, Inter-Party Advisory Council, has urged eligible voters in the state to reject vote buying, voter intimidation and other electoral violence, before, during and after the election.
Speaking at a stakeholders’ engagement and voter sensitisation press conference in Awka, on Tuesday, the Chairman of IPAC, Dr Yusuf Dantalle, said vote-buying and other electoral vices weaken the foundation of democracy and diminish the value of the people’s mandate.
Dantelle, represented by the National Publicity Secretary of the organisation, Chinyere Kalu, reminded the voters to know that every vote counts, and their ballot is their power to shape the future of their state.
He told all political parties and candidates participating in the election to know that the will of the electorate is supreme and sacrosanct, adding that in a democracy, power ideally belongs to the people.
He called on all contestants to embrace issue-based campaigns, respect the rules of engagement, and place the collective interest of the tate above personal ambition, insisting that democracy thrives where political actors demonstrate maturity, tolerance, and sportsmanship.
“Today’s engagement builds on that momentum, focusing on voter enlightenment, institutional synergy, and the reaffirmation of our collective responsibility in safeguarding democracy”
“As you are aware, IPAC serves as the official platform for inter-party dialogue, collaboration, and consensus-building in Nigeria’s democratic process. We urge you to come out en masse on election day, cast your vote peacefully, and protect the integrity of your choice”
Vote according to your conviction, conscience, and the credibility of candidates and not inducement or sentiment.
“Reject vote buying, voter intimidation, and electoral violence, as these vices weaken the foundation of democracy and diminish the value of your mandate.
“Remember, every vote counts, and your ballot is your power to shape the future of your State. To all political parties and candidates, IPAC reminds you that the will of the electorate is supreme and sacrosanct. In a democracy, power ideally belongs to the people. Therefore, leadership must be earned through the ballot, not by coercion or manipulation.”
