Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, has warned residents against recruiting criminals from outside the state to carry out kidnappings and other violent crimes, describing the trend as a major setback to ongoing efforts to improve security. The governor issued the warning on Wednesday while speaking at the 2026 Ministers’ Conference organised by the Edo State chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in Benin City. Okpebholo expressed concern over the security situation in the state, alleging that some individuals were deliberately exaggerating incidents of crime and spreading false information on social media to discredit his administration. According to him, investigations by security agencies have uncovered the involvement of local collaborators who allegedly recruit armed gangs from outside Edo State to perpetrate kidnappings and other criminal activities. “Do you know one painful thing?  ANGLICAN CHURCH CONDEMNS KILLING OF VENERABLE EDWIN ACHI


The Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion) has condemned the killing of Venerable Edwin Achi, a priest of the Diocese of Kaduna, who was murdered after a month-long abduction.


In a statement signed by the Primate, Archbishop Henry Ndukuba, the Church described the incident as a tragic loss and an assault on the nation’s conscience.


The Church called on the Federal Government, security agencies, and international partners to identify and bring to justice the sponsors and enablers of attacks targeting clergy and vulnerable communities.


It also appealed for the immediate and unconditional release of the priest’s wife and daughter, who were abducted alongside him and remain in captivity.


The Anglican Communion urged authorities to intensify efforts to end kidnappings nationwide and prayed for comfort for the family and healing for the nation.
