AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk.  ASAGBA ASABA EXCUSES HIMSELF FROM PARTICIPATING AS CHAIRMAN, TECHNICAL COMMITTEE OF PROPOSED ANIOMA STATE

This is to inform the proponents for the creation of Anioma State that, with immediate effect, His Royal Majesty (HRM), Asagba Prof Epiphany C. Azinge, OON, SAN, LLD(HC), FNIAL, FICMC, KSJI, KSG, has decided to excuse himself from participating as Chairman of the Technical Committee of the quest for the creation of Anioma State. His Royal Majesty, however, remains irreversibly committed to the idea of creation of Anioma State within the historically recognized Anioma entity.

The reasons for the above are as follows:

A. Irreconcilable differences as regards the geographical boundaries and the delineation of the territory to be known as Anioma State.

B. Clandestine and delusional complicity to move the Capital of the proposed Anioma State out of Asaba.

As the Traditional Ruler of Asaba, HRM, the Asagba of Asaba, cannot be seen to be presiding over the liquidation and decimation of his kingdom. HRM’S Oath of Office enjoins him, at all times, to protect, preserve and defend the interest and wellbeing of Asaba people. Any thing, whatsoever, that will lead HRM to compromise his oath of office will always be rejected.

Ogbueshi Dr (Engr) Jude C. Mgbeze, KSJI

Private/Personal Secretary to HRM
