 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Body of missing California YouTuber fisherman recovered off Mexico, family reports

The body of Mikey Rijavec, a San Diego fisherman and popular YouTuber, was recovered off the coast of Mexico, his family announced on GoFundMe.

Rijavec, who ran the channel “SD Fish and Sips,” was on a solo fishing trip near Baja California on Nov. 11 when he issued a mayday call. According to his family, engine trouble caused his boat to flip after the motor came loose, though he managed to right the skiff, which had taken on water. Details of what happened afterward remain unclear.

U.S. and Mexican authorities joined the search, which included boats and aircraft, while the family also hired private vessels and planes. The U.S. Coast Guard later transferred the case to the Mexican Navy. After several days, Rijavec’s body was found on Sunday near San Cristobal, a day after his family officially ended the search.

In a statement on GoFundMe, the family said, “Mikey was mindful and present every day, and that allowed him to live a longer life than can be measured on a calendar… if we live by his example, we will not only be OK, we will be better.”

 Tinubu announces arrival of 4 US attack helicopters President Bola Tinubu has stated that four attack helicopters will soon arrive in the country from the United States amid rising insecurity.
