 IGP DISU PAYS OPERATIONAL VISIT TO  AKWA IBOM, PRESIDES OVER PASSING-OUT CEREMONY OF 1,068 RETRAINED CONSTABLES The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, psc(+), NPM, today, 30th April 2026, undertook an official visit to Akwa Ibom State, where he paid a courtesy call on the Executive Governor, His Excellency, Pastor Umo Eno, ahead of the passing-out ceremony of retrained Police Constables in Uyo.  China begins nationwide fire safety inspections after Hong Kong blaze

China has launched a nationwide inspection of fire safety in high-rise buildings following a deadly blaze in Hong Kong that killed at least 128 people, officials announced Saturday. The move aims to prevent similar disasters on the mainland.

The Ministry of Emergency Management said the inspection will focus on buildings undergoing exterior renovations and interior modifications. Authorities will examine flammable materials used in wall insulation, banned construction materials such as bamboo scaffolding, fire safety equipment, and emergency evacuation routes. Local officials are required to carry out thorough inspections and immediately address any hazards, with strict penalties for serious violations. The Hong Kong fire, which began on Wednesday, rapidly consumed seven of eight 32-story blocks at an apartment complex under renovation, highlighting risks linked to combustible scaffolding and foam insulation.
