 Dolly Parton returns to public eye to celebrate opening day at Dollywood     Dolly Parton made her first public appearance in months to celebrate the opening day of Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on Friday. The country music icon reflected on the past year, a year after the death of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, saying she is “doing good” and has been working to rebuild herself spiritually, emotionally, and physically after grieving and dealing with health issues that kept her from touring. Joined on stage by Dollywood president Eugene Naughton, Parton brought her trademark humor to the crowd, joking about rumors of a new husband while reaffirming her devotion to Dean. Cortland, NY, students suspended for bringing BB gun to school as Halloween costume prop

 Two students from Cortland Junior Senior High School were suspended Friday morning after one of them brought a BB gun to school as part of a Halloween costume, according to a statement from the district. The weapon was discovered in the student’s possession inside the school, prompting officials to alert police and notify families. The district described the incident as showing an “incredible lack of judgment” and a clear violation of school policy prohibiting weapons of any kind on campus.

Police said the student who brought the BB gun did so because his costume depicted someone who had been shot. Another student, realizing the potential consequences, offered to hide the gun in his backpack for the day. A third student, unsure if the weapon was real, reported the situation to school staff. Authorities quickly located the students, and the BB gun was surrendered without incident. Both students were immediately removed from school grounds and suspended pending a superintendent’s hearing. The district emphasized that the possession of any firearm, including BB guns, is strictly banned under its code of conduct. Police confirmed there were no threats made, and classes continued without disruption.
