AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm.  Criticism Mounts As Arewa Consultative Forum Prepares Anniversary Celebration Amid Northern Nigeria Security Crisis

As Northern Nigeria continues to face escalating insecurity, including attacks on communities, schools, and the killings of key figures, critics are questioning the priorities of the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF).

Social commentator IG Wala observed that while “Arewa is bleeding” from ongoing terrorist attacks, kidnappings, and violence, the ACF is reportedly focused on organizing a high-profile and costly anniversary celebration scheduled for this week.

“Where is our conscience?” IG Wala asked, highlighting the perceived disconnect between the region’s pressing security challenges and the organization’s activities.

These remarks come amid rising public concern over the safety of Northern communities and mounting calls for urgent action to address the escalating violence.
