 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week. ‎Anambra-born billionaire broth­ers Chief Emeka Okonkwo and Chief Kingsley Okonkwo have keyed into Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo’s Public Private Community Partnership model as both brothers are currently helping to construct Amampu­tu-Okija road in their home town Uli, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra state.

‎Speaking exclusively to journalist on the development, Ihiala Local Government Chair­man, Hon. Engr. Anayochukwu Orjiako, said that the gesture was a welcome development as the billionaire brothers decided to think home which is in tandem with Governor Soludo’s Aku Lu Uno policy.

‎Orjiako explained that Chief Emeka Okonkwo a.k.a E-Mon­ey and his elder brother, Chief Kingsley Okonkwo, an Afrobe­ats superstar and music icon, popularly known as KCee, are both illustrious sons of Uli town in Ihiala Local Government Area and that both siblings have been part and parcel of community development drives in the area.

‎Orjiako noted that E-Money and his elder sibling KCee were currently helping to reconstruct the road that connects Egbuoma Amamputu Uli to Okija, adding that the economic importance of the road cannot be overempha­sised.

‎The council chairman, how­ever, praised the efforts of the Anambra State Government and Ihiala stakeholders for mak­ing Ihiala Local Government a befitting local government area to live in, noting that Ihiala peo­ple should expect a very peaceful Christmas celebration this year.
