Federal high court sitting in Portharcourt Rivers State, has struck out a case brought against the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency, NOSDRA, filed by Percy Nyengiyikado and Aribiba Ngeribara and other 998 fishermen and women of Yayo-Ama village of Bolo community in Ogu/Bolo LGA for lack of merit..
According to the Director General of NOSDRA Chukwuemek Woke, the plaintiff acting as representatives of about one thousand fishermen and women of yayo-Ama village in Ogu Bolo LGA, filed a case against the agency in 2018, compelling the agency to perform certain specific statutory duties in respect of two oil spills that occurred in 2008/2009 at the bolo west oil fields against shell petroleum development company of Nigeria.
In a landmark judgement delivered by Hon Justice E.A Obile,the case was struck out for lacking merit.
