The Mokopane Regional Court has sentenced former Gauteng Police Sergeant, Ntshavheni Ndonyane (44), to five years of direct imprisonment for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Ndonyane’s conviction follows his arrest in April 2024 near Nyl Plaza Tollgate during a well-coordinated, intelligence-led operation. The multidisciplinary team had been investigating a series of targeted killings in Thohoyandou, allegedly linked to organized criminal groups known as the Jerusalem Gang and the Black Mafia Forum (BMF).
At the time of his arrest, Ndonyane was attached to the Public Order Policing (POPS) Unit in Johannesburg. He was found in possession of firearms and ammunition believed to have been used in several violent crimes associated with these gangs.
Following his arrest, Ndonyane was dismissed from the South African Police Service and remained in custody without bail until the court concluded his case on 6 November 2025.
