 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Joan Templeman, wife of Virgin Records founder Richard Branson, dies at 80

Joan Templeman, the wife of billionaire Virgin Records founder Richard Branson, has passed away at the age of 80.

Branson, 75, shared the news on Instagram Tuesday, describing Templeman as his "wife and partner for 50 years." No cause of death was disclosed. The couple met in early 1976 at a live-in recording studio built for Virgin and married in 1989. They had two children together, Holly and Sam.

In a tribute, Sam Branson called his mother the "kindest, most loving, warm, and abundantly generous woman to walk this Earth," adding he was grateful to have had the privilege of calling her his mother. Richard Branson described Templeman as the "most wonderful mum and grandmum our kids and grandkids could have ever wished for," and added, "She was my best friend, my rock, my guiding light, my world. Love you forever, Joan x."

 Tinubu announces arrival of 4 US attack helicopters President Bola Tinubu has stated that four attack helicopters will soon arrive in the country from the United States amid rising insecurity. Speaking at a meeting with a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria, led by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his Lagos residence, on Friday, Dec. 26, Tinubu revealed that the Federal Government had ordered four attack helicopters from the U.S, adding that they will arrive in the country “soon”. He said: “Our orders for four attack helicopters from the United States of America will take some time to arrive.
