 Catholic priest reportedly klled in Kogi  A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Samuel Opeyemi Oyetoro, has been reportedly killed by unknown assailants in Ajaokuta, Kogi State. According to reports, the priest was stabbed multiple times along Ajaokuta road on Wednesday, 29th July 2026. His body was found dumped at the roadside.  Rev. Fr. Oyetoro was born in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State and a native of Ayetoro in Ijumu Local Government Area.  Until his death, he served as a priest at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Egbe.  NIGERIAN ARMY HANDS OVER  INTERCEPTED  CONSIGNMENT OF SUSPECTED CANNABIS TO NDLEA IN KOGI STATE 


As part of its efforts to disrupt the flow of illicit substances that contribute to the rising cases of banditry and other violent crimes across Kogi State, troops of 12 Brigade Nigerian Army Lokoja have intercepted a major courier of consignment of Cannabis Sativa from Ekiti State to Obajana.


A statement by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, 12 Brigade Nigerian Army Lieutenant Hassan Abdullahi says, the operation took place on the 24th November 2025, when troops deployed at Agbede Response Area, conducted a routine stop-and-search on a Toyota Camry with registration number DKA 158AU. 


The vehicle, driven by one Johnson Ayo, was also found with a branded police hat and belt displayed on the dashboard, raising further suspicion.


A thorough search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 10 sacks of Cannabis Sativa weighing 108.8 kilograms, concealed in the car. Preliminary findings suggest that large-scale drug movement of this nature do not only support criminal networks financially but also fuels the chain of activities that often escalate into banditry within the state and it surroundings.


The suspect and the recovered exhibits have been handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency Kogi State Command, for further investigation and necessary action.
