 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Spencer Lofranco, known for Jamesy Boy and Gotti, dies at 33

Canadian actor Spencer Lofranco, known for his roles in “Gotti” and “Jamesy Boy,” has died at the age of 33.

His brother, Santino, shared the news on social media Thursday before setting his account to private. In the post, he wrote, “To the legend @roccowinning. My brother. You lived a life only some could dream of. You changed people’s lives, and now you are with God. I will always love you and miss you, Bear. RIP. October 18, 1992 – November 18, 2025.”

Lofranco gained recognition for his role as John A. in the 2018 crime thriller “Gotti,” starring alongside John Travolta as John Gotti. He also appeared as Harry Brooks in Angelina Jolie’s 2014 World War II drama “Unbroken.”

Born to a lawyer father and a model-actress mother, Lofranco began acting at age 13. He made his first on-screen appearance in the 2013 romantic comedy “At Middleton” and committed to acting at 17, choosing it over a potential career in hockey or law. He briefly studied at the New York Film Academy before landing the lead role in “Jamesy Boy,” which tells the story of a young gang member seeking redemption in prison.

Authorities are currently investigating his death, and no cause has been released. Further details are not yet available.

 Tinubu announces arrival of 4 US attack helicopters President Bola Tinubu has stated that four attack helicopters will soon arrive in the country from the United States amid rising insecurity. Speaking at a meeting with a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria, led by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his Lagos residence, on Friday, Dec. 26, Tinubu revealed that the Federal Government had ordered four attack helicopters from the U.S, adding that they will arrive in the country “soon”.
