President Donald Trump announced he will visit China after speaking with Chinese President Xi Jinping by phone Monday morning. The conversation, confirmed by a White House official, covered topics including trade, Taiwan, and the conflict in Ukraine, following an in-person meeting earlier this month in Busan, South Korea.
Trump said on Truth Social that the call was “very good” and included discussions on Ukraine, Russia, fentanyl, and American farm products. He added that the U.S.-China relationship is “extremely strong.” Trump also announced that Xi had invited him to Beijing in April 2026, and he had extended a reciprocal invitation for Xi to visit the United States next year. During the call, Xi stated that Taiwan should return to mainland China as part of the post-war international order, while emphasizing China’s desire for a lasting resolution to the Russia-Ukraine conflict. Trade issues, including American soybean purchases, were also discussed, though no formal agreements were announced.
