 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  VP Shettima Arrives Bauchi To Attend Funeral of Late Sheikhh Dahiru Usman Bauchi


Vice President Kashim Shettima has arrived in Bauchi, leading the Federal Government delegation to the funeral of the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, one of the country’s most revered Islamic scholars whose lifelong devotion to knowledge and spiritual guidance shaped generations across Nigeria and beyond.


He departed Abuja earlier today at the behest of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and is accompanied by a strong delegation that includes the National Security Adviser, Malam Nuhu Ribadu; Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Sen. Abubakar Kyari; Minister of Foreign Affairs, Amb. Yusuf Tuggar; Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate; Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi; Senators Abdulaziz Yari and Shehu Buba; along with senior presidential aides, Special Adviser to the President, Dr. Aliyu Modibbo Umar; Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, amongst others.


The Vice President will also condole with the bereaved family, the Tijjaniyya movement, and the wider Muslim community, and pray for God’s mercy upon Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s soul and for comfort for all who mourn him.
