 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week. 40-YEAR-OLD ARRESTED IN LEPHALALE FOR ALLEGED DRUG DEALING. (PHOTOS).


 40-Year-Old Arrested in Lephalale for Alleged Drug Dealing


A 40-year-old foreign national is expected to appear in the Lephalale Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 1 December 2025, on charges of dealing in drugs.


The suspect was arrested during an intelligence-driven operation carried out by members of the Organised Crime Investigation and Narcotics Unit.


According to police, on Friday, 28 November 2025 at around 07:30, officers received information about a man suspected of selling drugs in the Lephalale area. The information was followed up, and during observation, police noticed a vehicle matching the description of the suspect’s car.


When the driver spotted the police, he allegedly sped off. Officers gave chase and managed to stop the vehicle. A search was conducted, and police recovered a plastic bag containing substances believed to be heroin and crystal meth, with an estimated street value of more than R15 000.


The suspect was arrested on the scene. He is scheduled to appear before the Lephalale Magistrate’s Court on Monday to face charges of dealing in drugs.
