AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk.  $400,000 in lobster stolen while being transported to Costco, shipping company reports

A $400,000 shipment of lobster destined for Costco stores was stolen while in transit, the freight company’s president reported.

Dylan Rexing, president and CEO of Rexing Companies, said he believes the driver posing as a legitimate carrier was responsible for taking the seafood, which was not alive, en route to Costco locations in Illinois and Minnesota.

“This theft wasn’t random,” Rexing said, noting a growing trend of criminals impersonating carriers using spoofed emails and burner phones to intercept high-value shipments. “For a mid-sized brokerage like ours, a $400,000 loss is significant. It forces tough decisions and ultimately drives up costs across the supply chain — costs consumers ultimately end up paying.”

Rexing called for stronger enforcement measures from federal agencies to combat organized criminal networks, warning that such thefts are likely to continue disrupting businesses and affecting everyday prices. Costco did not immediately comment.
