The Anambra State Government has reaffirmed its directives for the final relocation of the remaining traders operating on Port Harcourt Road, Uga Street and Atani Road, Onitsha, to the Allied Building Materials International Market, Nteje, located at Kilometre 8, Onitsha–Enugu Expressway.

Speaking during an official visit to the market in Nteje, the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, on Trade and Markets, Chief Evarist Uba, announced that affected traders have been given up to January 1, 2026, to complete their relocation to the permanent site.

Chief Uba said that the relocation directive affects the following Unions: Iron Dealers, God’s Favor Building Materials, Premier Lock-Up, Trinity and Unity, PVC Pipe,  Combined Building Materials, and Plastic Tanks, others currently operating outside the approved market locations in Onitsha.

He emphasized that the timeline is final and non-negotiable, warning that any trader or union that fails to comply within the stipulated period will face appropriate enforcement actions, as the government will no longer condone street trading, traffic obstruction, and market disorder within Onitsha metropolis.

According to the Special Adviser, the relocation exercise is part of Governor Soludo’s commitment to restoring order, safety and economic efficiency in markets across Anambra State, especially in Onitsha, the commercial heartbeat of the South-East.

“The Soludo administration is determined to ensure that all markets are properly organized, secure and compliant with urban planning standards.

"The state government urges all affected traders to take advantage of the grace period and relocate voluntarily, in the collective interest of orderly commerce, urban renewal and sustainable development in Onitsha, Nteje and the entire state.

"This policy is in the best interest of traders, residents and road users, and will enhance business growth and safety for all,” Chief Uba said.

He further assured traders that the government has made adequate provisions at the KM 8 market to accommodate all affected unions, noting that the permanent site in Nteje offers better space, accessibility and opportunities for expansion.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the Allied Building Materials International Market, Nteje, Mr. Everistus Ejezie, thanked the Anambra State Government for the engagement and the visit by the Special Adviser.

Mr. Ejezie pledged the cooperation of the market leadership, assuring that all union executives and traders would be properly sensitized to ensure smooth and total compliance with the relocation directives.
