 Dolly Parton returns to public eye to celebrate opening day at Dollywood     Dolly Parton made her first public appearance in months to celebrate the opening day of Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on Friday. The country music icon reflected on the past year, a year after the death of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, saying she is “doing good” and has been working to rebuild herself spiritually, emotionally, and physically after grieving and dealing with health issues that kept her from touring. Joined on stage by Dollywood president Eugene Naughton, Parton brought her trademark humor to the crowd, joking about rumors of a new husband while reaffirming her devotion to Dean. She also shared updates on her ongoing projects, including a new Broadway musical and her Dolly’s Life of Many Colors Museum in Nashville.  Awka South Education and Social Development Department Hosts 2025 End-of-Year Celebration

The Education and Social Development Department of Awka South Local Government Area held its annual end-of-year get-together for 2025, celebrating a year of service, unity, and gratitude. The event, filled with joy and reflection, took place at the Traditional Rulers’ Conference Hall at the LGA headquarters.


The gathering brought together serving and retired staff, including past and present heads of department, to appreciate God’s faithfulness and to recognize the department’s achievements in service delivery throughout the year.


In her opening remarks, the Head of Department, Mrs. Lilian Akwuba, expressed deep appreciation to the staff for their dedication and commitment to duty.


“I commend your good attitude to work, your passion, and your dedication to service. This annual event is our way of saying thank you. The reward for hard work is more work, so lets not relent, God is taking note.”


Representing the Mayor of Awka South, Deputy Mayor  Paul Ifeme commended the department for its impactful role in disseminating accurate information and addressing social welfare issues within the community.


“You have restored hope to families and helped mend broken homes. As a man of peace, I am proud to associate with this department. Let us continue in this direction, and by God’s grace, we will all celebrate again in 2026.”


The event featured heartfelt testimonies from both retired and serving staff, who shared their experiences and reflections on the department’s progress. A special presentation of gifts was made by the Deputy Mayor in recognition of the staff’s contributions to the local government’s development goals.


Dignitaries in attendance  also included the Supervisory Councillor for Security, unit heads, and other senior officials, both serving and retired of the Education and Social Development Department.


The celebration served as a moment of unity, appreciation, and renewed commitment to public service, as the department looks ahead to a more impactful and productive 2026.
