 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week. Brigitte Bardot to be laid to rest by the sea in Saint-Tropez 

 French film legend Brigitte Bardot, who passed away Sunday at the age of 91, will be laid to rest in a seaside cemetery in Saint-Tropez, local authorities confirmed Monday, though no date has been announced.

Bardot, an enduring symbol of 1950s and 60s France, spent much of her later life in Saint-Tropez, devoting herself to animal welfare and finding comfort among her pets. Longtime resident Philippe Volmier, who knew her for three decades, recalled seeing her walking her dogs on the beach and described her as a kind and generous friend. President Emmanuel Macron praised Bardot as a figure of freedom and universal influence, calling her “a legend of the century.” Despite having expressed a wish to be buried in her garden, officials noted that no request for a private burial had been submitted.

 Tinubu announces arrival of 4 US attack helicopters President Bola Tinubu has stated that four attack helicopters will soon arrive in the country from the United States amid rising insecurity. Speaking at a meeting with a delegation of the Christian Association of Nigeria, led by its President, Archbishop Daniel Okoh, at his Lagos residence, on Friday, Dec. 26, Tinubu revealed that the Federal Government had ordered four attack helicopters from the U.S, adding that they will arrive in the country “soon”. He said: “Our orders for four attack helicopters from the United States of America will take some time to arrive.
