Iheukwumere Alaribe, chairman of Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area (LGA), Imo State, has convened a high-level security meeting with a view to collaborate with all the traditional rulers to strengthen security.
This is as he announced a new reporting security measure for vigilantes, pledging to ensure that all intra-community conflicts would be resolved.
The chairman, who emphasized on the importance of security, called for improved collaboration between the council and the traditional institutions of the communities in Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area to ensure adequate safety of lives and property, saying that the safety of the people is a top priority.
"I call on all our traditional rulers to work closely with the council, the local security outfits, to share information and intelligence so we can quickly stop any threats before they escalate," he said.
The council boss reaffirmed the authority of the monarchs, making them know that traditional rulers are the chief security officers of their autonomous communities and not the president general.
In order to strengthen the local security, Alaribe announced a new reporting measure for the vigilantes in the autonomous communities , saying, that they will report to their traditional rulers twice a week for proper re-evaluation and signing in attendance, because, the traditional rulers are the chief security officers of their various communities.
He stated that the new arrangement will last until official directives are received from the Imo State government.
Meanwhile, Alaribe has commended the prevailing collaboration between the council and traditional rulers, which according to him led to notable security successes.
He also commended the traditional rulers of Amuzu Ward for sharing information and intelligence with the council that helped in chasing herders out of Aboh Mbaise Local Government Area.
