 AU urges de-escalation as fighting displaces over 180,000 in South Sudan’s Jonglei state The Chairperson of the African Union Commission called for immediate de-escalation and strict adherence to South Sudan’s 2018 peace agreement, as renewed fighting in Jonglei State displaced more than 180,000 people and raised fears of further civilian harm. In a statement, African Union Commission Chairperson Mahmoud Ali Youssouf said he was deeply concerned by the deteriorating security situation in parts of the country, particularly Jonglei, where escalating violence and inflammatory rhetoric have put civilians—including women and children—at heightened risk. South Sudanese authorities estimate the number of displaced in Jonglei at more than 180,000, the United Nations humanitarian agency OCHA said last week.  Isiagu Community Banishes Family for Drowning Two Children.

Residents of Isiagu community in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State have reportedly banished a man, his wife, and their 15-year-old son from the community following a tragic incident that claimed the lives of two young boys.


According to the viral video, the incident occurred when the teenage boy allegedly pushed two younger children into a flowing river while they were together in a bush fetching firewood. The children were said to have been swept away by the river.


It was gathered that the act was witnessed by a palm wine tapper who raised an alarm after seeing what happened. Despite efforts to rescue the victims, the boys reportedly died before help could reach them.


Following the incident, community leaders and residents reportedly convened and resolved to banish the boy and his parents from Isiagu permanently, in line with local customs and traditions.
